2026 Taiwan Lantern Festival: Key Visual & Merchandise Design Extension
— Overview
┃2026 Taiwan Lantern Festival|Central Exhibition Zone Master Planning × Key Visual Design Extension┃
For the 2026 Taiwan Lantern Festival, Harvest Ideation stepped into the role of master planner for the Central Exhibition Zone. From overall content curation and exhibition experience design to the key visual’s design extension, we were thrilled to help shape the narrative of this signature urban festival.
The festival’s core key visual was crafted by the renowned design studio Bito. Drawing inspiration from the vertical structure of the Traditional Chinese characters for Chiayi (「嘉」 and 「義」), they translated typographic language into "Mr. Chiayi"—a distinct city IP and tourism ambassador. Developing into two distinct characters—"Chia-Chia" for the daytime and "Yi-Yi" for the night—the city's identity transcends flat, 2D visuals to become an experiential, memorable, and tangible festival language.
Building upon this brilliant foundation, Harvest Ideation took charge of the design extension for the key visual, translating the original artwork into tangible objects that resonate with the on-site festival experience and everyday utility. We launched nine exclusive merchandise items: plush mascot charms, inflatable lanterns, acrylic keychains, glow-in-the-dark pins, magnetic mini-lightboxes, hand towels, sticker packs, disposable cameras, and canvas tote bags. Rather than mere souvenirs, these items allow the visual language of the festival to naturally weave into daily life as people walk, capture memories, and participate.
For us, curating the Taiwan Lantern Festival is about more than just organizing exhibition content; it is about how a festival's core concept is visualized, felt, and carried home. We are incredibly proud to have contributed to the 2026 Taiwan Lantern Festival across multiple dimensions—from the physical landscape of the Central Exhibition Zone to the handheld objects—collectively bringing Chiayi’s festive scenery to life.
